Acids and Aging

Our number one goal at MONAS is to provide the most efficient and effective products possible. We always use naturals when possible but will also consider non-natural sources if proven safe and the efficacy is superior.

We have dozens of formulas for anti-aging, skin exfoliating, acne, and hydration utilizing acids from natural sources and others.

Following are a few of the more promising and effective acids.

ALPHA HYDROXY ACIDS

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA’s) are a collection of compounds made from regular food products. Among the most widely known are glycolic acid (from sugar cane), lactic acid (sour milk), malic acid (apples), citric acid (citrus fruits), and tartaric acid (wine grapes).

Alpha hydroxy acids are great exfoliators and increase blood flow to the skin, so they can help to minimize fine lines and wrinkles. AHAs can also lighten age spots and remove blackheads as part of the result.

HYALURONIC ACID

Hyaluronic acid forms an air permeable layer and penetrates the dermis, thus boosting the elasticity and hydration of the skin. The protective barrier on the skin locks in moisture, which gives the skin a youthful appearance.

GLYCOLIC ACID

Derived from sugar cane, pineapple and sugar beets, it is great for exfoliation, effectively removing the outermost layer of dead cells from skin, revealing brighter, fresher skin. It is often used to treat scarring, skin discoloration and signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles as well as assists with boosting collagen production, which is excellent for plumping up the skin.

SALICYLIC ACID

Salicylic acid penetrates the skin, and the acid part of the molecule can dissolve some of the intercellular ‘glue’ that holds skin cells together which makes it a fantastic exfoliator. In addition, Salicylic acid aids in removing and loosening skin pores that are cogged thus helping to dissolve the blackheads.

Salicylic acid can reduce sebum secretion, which is another way it can help reduce acne. Lastly, it’s also an anti-inflammatory, which can help calm inflamed acne. A natural source for this powerful ingredient is Willow Bark Extract.
